the water beetles are back!

In Uncategorized on June 8, 2011 at 1:03 pm

The pond has had a real recharge of water following the showers which followed louise home from the shops.

The LBJ of the water beetle world has made an appearance in the pond already which is great news and a wonderful illustration how temporary pools are colonised.

pond is restarted at last

The pond has had a helpful dose of rainwater. It has also had a slight modification with a new shingle/gravel beach and sand. The problem is the sand speeds up the drying of the pond through capillary action.

Barely 24hrs have passed and life is already back in the pond. Scavenger beetles are back and some fly larvae are at the bottom of the pond.

I have added some more plants in the shallows. Native plants such as forget me not, mint, and grasses are left in the shallows left top their own devices.
